GFWC-WI President's Special Project - Quilts of Valor

Quilts of Valor is a wartime quilt made to honor our war wounded. It is a tangible way to say: "Thank you for your service and valor for our country." A Quilt of Valor is not a charity quilt nor a service quilt. It is a beautifully made, pieced and quilted wartime quilt. In short, a Quilt of Valor is a wartime quilt made by wartime quilters. Please join our efforts to cover all our War Wounded. We welcome your participation (in all stages of completion) and our War Wounded will never forget.

Basic Size: minimum: 50" x 60"; maximum: 72" x 87"

Please use quality cotton fabric. Quilt shops are the best sources of this type of fabric.

The most popular colors are red, white, and blue. Patriotic themes are loved, along with eagles, stars, stripes, and flags. It does not have to be red, white, and blue. Use good judgment when making a quilt that is not patriotic.

Backing Fabric: use quality fabric to assure durability. No sheets or muslin.

If you are not a quilter, donations of fabric, batting or money would be appreciated. Any donations and checks payable to "GFWC-WI Quilts of Valor" project should be mailed to Jan Flood or Ellen Weber.

Objective: To encourage Clubwomen to get back to the roots of community volunteering

Explore opportunities for individual involvement. Empowered women -- one by one, and hand in hand -- can make a difference. Encourage each other, do what you can -- in little and big ways -- to contribute toward improving the quality of life...for many...for a few...maybe just for one person. It all matters!

Any size club can participate. Clubs can partner with other organizations and guilds to fulfill a need. Consider sharing time and skills with youth, or elders, working together to improve the lives of all. We all have special skills that we can work with to make a difference in our communities. One by one, hand in hand -- for many, for a few, for just one. It all matters.
