Jan Flood
2007 Award Winner

What does it take to earn the title ‘GFWC-WI Woman of Achievement'?  Jan Flood, the 2007 recipient of this prestigious award, has been a mighty force since 1988 both in the limelight and behind the scenes at the local, district, state, regional and international levels.

Jan became a member of the GFWC Stevens Point Woman's Club in 1988.  Her experience as Deputy Comptroller Treasurer of the City of Stevens Point led to her election as the Treasurer of the 7th District.  During this time Jan was largely responsible for a membership event that more than doubled the size of her club.

She continued in District offices from 1990 to 1996 and was President of 7th District from 1994-1996. The Amherst Junction Woman's Club was re-federated during her term.  During that time she served on the GFWC Board as chairman of HOBY (Hugh O'Brien Youth Scholarship) and a counselor at the HOBY workshop at Carroll College.

From 1998 to 2000, Jan served as president of the GFWC Stevens Point Woman's Club and in 2000 to 2002, served as fund raising chairman for Great Lakes Region.  Jan's dedication to the Federation and her leadership abilities did not go unnoticed as she was next elected to serve as State Treasurer of GFWC Wisconsin for two administrations (2002 to 2006).  During that time she established a high standard of accounting practices and led our federation into compliance with Internal Revenue Service regulations.

While currently ‘taking a little break' from high profile leadership positions, Jan remains active in GFWC and  serves as the 2006-08 chairman of the Great Lakes Region Strategic Planning Committee and as co-chairman of the GFWC Wisconsin Woman of Achievement Award.  She is also serving her club as Community Improvement Contest chairman and was instrumental in obtaining funding in the form of grants to support the GFWC-WI State EMSC (Emergency Medical Services for Children) Project.  With Jan at the helm, Portage County EMSC Units will not know what hit them!

In addition to the highlights listed above, Jan has served continuously on the boards of the GFWC Stevens Point Woman's Club, the GFWC 7th District and GFWC Wisconsin.  She has attended GFWC conventions in Nashville, New Orleans, St. Paul, Boston, Kansas City, Little Rock and Orlando.  She has not missed a Great Lakes Region conference since1990 and she has never missed a 7th District or GFWC Wisconsin convention.

Jan has served with distinction and has promoted membership in GFWC at every opportunity.  Her many hours chairing fund raisers such as the Taco Boat sale and community projects that include outfitting the county ambulances with child passenger safety seats have inspired her fellow club members and helped many causes in our community.

She is married with four daughters and 5 grandchildren.  One of her daughters is also a GFWC member and she has been a district president and GFWC Wisconsin Director of Junior Clubs.  Jan is active in her church and she is a member and officer of the Elks Auxiliary in Stevens Point.  She is a member of the Star Point Quilt Guild and is very generous with her time and talent in making quilts for local organizations and her many friends.

For many of us who know her, Jan is the first person we call on when help is needed, either in the club or as a friend.  She has a great capacity for giving what is needed, unselfishly and with love.  If any person embodies the qualities of the Collect for Clubwomen, it is Jan Flood, truly a GFWC-WI Woman of Achievement!
